The New Life Charitable Trust is the brain child of Mrs. G. Lalitha and Mr A.A. Swamy, and saw the day of light on 2nd October 1991. Mrs. G.Lalitha hails from a lower middle class family, her grandfather Mr. Kothandarama Iyer was a freedom fighter and was imprisioned many times. Most wanted by the British Government, a shoot at sight order was passed against him in 1942. After being surrounded by British soldiers at Tharangambadi, he preferred to lay down his life than surrendering himself, her grandmother was sanctioned freedom fighter pension after independence till 1998. It was her life and inspiration that laid the seeds of the New Life Home. G. Lalitha was an employee of the Office of Accountant General (A&E) and took voluntary retirement to concentrate on the day to day functioning of the organisation.
Mr A.A. Swamy hails from a lower middle class agriculturist family. He lost his mother ar an early age, and was brought u in a boarding school and had hence to strugglefor his sustenance and education. This made his strong enough to start working for betterment of parentless children. He worked for the Electricity Board Of Madras, he quit his job in 1996 to play a full time role in the New Life Home as its President, as number of inmates were rising. Having married G.Lalitha their inclination to social work started long back in their married life, they used to visit Government Hospitals during weekends to help patients, carried out many social work for many years.
It was on one such occassion during social service visit to Govenment Hospital, two patients were discharged from the hospital (one of whom was visually imparied and other physically disabled) they had no means of support. They were adopted by them and thus the birth of The New Life Charitable Trust Home with 2 inmates. The effort started with setting up New Life Home in downtrodden town of Eraiyur, located in Sriperumbudur Taluka, Tamilnadu, India under thatched roof mud house. Over the last 15 years down the road this effort has seen them taking the determined efforts into full blown organisation supporting 110 inmates and they have been shifted to a pucca concrete house. A sincere thanks is extended to many of supportive donors for such a cause of valor.
The efforts of The New Life has seen many facet of development both in the conditions of the inmates and a special thanks is extended to Dr. M Gopalaswamy who has been instrumental in providing and setting up the basic medical health services in New Life Health Center. Mr. N. R. Govindarajan, our Chartered Accountant who has been our guide since inception of the New Life, his honarary service has been the pillar to New Life. A special mention of thanks for the commendable efforts of NRIs of Dubai, who helped us raise a staggering sum of 12.5 Lakhs for construction of house for New Life through Blood Donation in Dubai. We pledge to all blood donors of Dubai that not a drop of blood will drop in vain for their herculean efforts. Last but not the least there were numerous people from Doha, Singapore and Chennai who have donated the other half for completion of the New Life Home, and maintaining day to day expenes of the Home. New Life’s major sustenance is due to constant and encouraging presence from it’s many well wishers whose financial, material and emotional support is rendered.
